Ok, I’m back! Whew !!!
So here is my little story . . . I have moved twice in the last 19 months. So from a house, to an apartment to a townhouse, we have finally settled.
From preparing a house to sell, the royal inconvenience of showing a property, to the pins and needles experience of the due diligence period, to packing stuff to go into storage and stuff to go to the apartment, followed by the actual move, along with acting as the GC in renovating our townhouse, and then another move into the townhouse and the transition of settling in, I am astonished that I haven’t been put into a box myself and carried off! So that is a run on sentence but you get the point. I’ve been in motion since July 2018.
I don’t know if it is the new bathroom light fixture or what, but I thought I looked much younger in the house, two moves ago.
I would love to say I had a steadfast meditation practice through it all, however, that would be a big fat lie. Having a background in project management, I am highly organized and prioritizing is second nature. With my head down each day I would power through my things-to-do list, barely breathing.
People often say they have a full plate when they are extremely busy. But judging by what I see, people not only have a full plate, they also have a full salad plate and a full dessert plate and seem to be heading back to the buffet for more!!! There are two Chinese pictographs for the word “busy”. They are heart and killing. When my days are filled with demands, I tend to lose myself.
The one mindful practice I did incorporate was when I arrived home I would sit down on the living room sofa for 5-10 minutes. I swear after a full day of running here and then there, I felt a certain hum in my body, a ramped up feeling. Just to sit still gave my nervous system a chance to chill.
And then with a long drawn in-breath, being more grounded, I would go about the business of opening the mail, feeding Cashmere his Fancy Feast and fixing a healthy meal. When my husband, Rick and I would sit down to a candle-light dinner, which we do practically every night, I would have the presence of mind to truly listen to him in a wholehearted way.
Mindful Tip:
When you arrive home after a day out in the world, simply sit for a couple of minutes to catch your breath and move from a doing mode to a being mode.
